Passcut Privacy — aligned with Settings → Privacy
Passcut is on-device by default. Footage does not go to a Passcut cloud. This page matches the in-app Settings → Privacy copy for the shipping Mac app. Environment is the same architecture: work runs on the Mac you already own.
What leaves the Mac, and what does not?
Transcription and most cuts run on-device. For some whole-video instructions you can optionally use Apple Private Cloud Compute — transcript text only, never your video file, never a third-party AI API. Off by default in Settings → Privacy.
Network the app still uses
License activation needs the network (Lemon Squeezy). First transcription may download Apple speech assets. There is no in-app telemetry uploader unless you later opt in inside the Mac app — the marketing site does not claim app telemetry.

Why does on-device also mean less cloud?
Cloud editors upload your talking-head and burn GPU time on someone else’s rack. Passcut transcribes, cuts, captions, and exports on Apple Silicon you already plugged in. We do not publish a carbon score. The difference is where the work runs: your Mac, not a Passcut data center.
Reduce noise and Enhance voice process the span on the timeline, not the unused original file. Optional Private Cloud Compute is Apple’s private compute for transcript text — still not a Passcut GPU farm.

Does video upload?
No. Footage does not go to a Passcut cloud.
Does any text leave the Mac?
Only if you turn on Apple Private Cloud Compute, or when activating a license key.
Can I use Passcut fully offline?
Not for first-run speech-asset download or license activation. Transcription and most cuts still run on-device after those steps.
What language can I transcribe?
You pick it. Ask every time (default), reuse the last language, or always use one. One language per media file — Apple’s speech model does not switch mid-file.
Does a second clip upload or auto-transcribe?
No. Extra clips transcribe when you ask, each with its own language. Footage does not go to a Passcut cloud.
Is Passcut better for the environment than a cloud editor?
Your video is not uploaded to a Passcut cloud and is not transcribed on a rented GPU farm. We do not publish a carbon score. The difference is where the work runs: your Mac.
How do I ask a privacy question?
